A Local Derby

In our last team feature on the 8 October it was the turn of one our newest teams the E team to face the camera. On this occasion we look at another team that includes new members to the Club. The "H" team who operate in Division 6 of the Chelmsford & District League.

Our pictures on this occasion arise out of a local derby; and perhaps the suggestion from the first is that maybe the team were not doing so well at the time? Or is it that the team captain just does not like facing the camera? The star of the H team this year has been David Gatheral, now in his second season with the club. In that time David has seen his game improve dramatically. This is evidenced by his personal performance in the League. Last season averaging just 35%, but this season so far his average of nearly 87% puts him in the top three players in this division. A tremendous record of improvement. The team also features another newcomer, Samantha Duce (who really likes to be known as Sam), returning to table tennis after a break to have a family. And we have been delighted to welcome her to Baddow. And in the 12 months that she has been playing again her table tennis has also shown real improvement. Just be careful if you get on the end of one of her cross court forehands!

Perhaps the match wasn't going quite right for team captain Diane?

Absent form the photo shoot on this occasion was fourth team member 11 year old Thomas Hill. Thomas is coming on in leaps and bounds benefiting greatly from the coaching he is receiving as part of the Regional Junior Training Squad, and not too mention a little encouragement from his father, Jon!  The team are well organised and managed by team captain Diane Pitt. Diane has been a member of the club now since its formation and has made it a family affair as together with husband Adrian they are now introducing their children Sam & Hannah into the delights of table tennis and the Baddow Club.

Our picture comes from the local derby between Baddow G & H. And as you might expect with a local derby it finished all square. David winning 3 for the H team. Diane had to face her father, Fred Henwood, to secure a share of the points - and like a dutiful father he obliged. "I just can't handle her anymore", Fred was heard to say!

Well it's all smiles now, as Baddow H share the points
in a derby match with Baddow G in January.
