COACHING COURSE ATTRACTS NEW PLAYERS

An ambitious Adult Coaching course offered by BVTTC is not only fully subscribed but has also attracted 4 potential new players. The 10 week course under the directorship of Club coaching officer Adrian Pitt, is being led by the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League Coaching Officer, Hil Dowsett, assisted by ETTA Coaches Neil Gooday and Adrian. The course was designed specifically with potential new players in mind and also to improve the skills of existing players currently taking part in the lower divisions of the League. Intended for a maximum of 10 players the Course has achieved over subscription, and as a result 12 players with a mix of abilities have been enthusiastically attending the 2 hour coaching sessions. Not only has there been a sense of fun evident throughout but the effort being put in by those attending has been plain to see. And what is more after just the first three weeks of the course the visible improvement to skills from the effort put in also plain to see. The pictures below show something of the story so far...

Veteran Coach, Hil Dowsett, offers 1:1 explanation to delegate
Hector Roagers

Cheryl Salter, whose son Michael has recently been attending Junior Coaching at the Cathedral School, has decided she wants to see what this table tennis thing is all about. Together with Shirley Pitt (right) they take a moment out to smile for the camera. Cheryl and Shirley are two of the potential new players benefiting from the Adult Coaching Course.

Ace First Division star, Terry Dowsett, lends his time to give some tips to delegate Chris High . And you can see Chris is taking it all in - but can he apply it?

Mike Pitt, another of the  potential new players trying out table tennis at the Adult Coaching Course.  keep it simple to start as Mike works on his basic backhand push. At least he seems to be smiling so he must be enjoying it.
Mike has decided that with two sons , Adam & Ryan, getting so much enjoyment from table tennis he wants
to get in on the act and saw the Course as being an excellent means of doing  something about it.

And as Coach Hil looks on established players like Diane Pitt find that they too can learn and benefit from the structure of the Course

No Sam, that is not the way to do it! Delegate Sam Duce is encouraged to think about
her grip; as in the background  Caoch Neil demonstrates good backhand technique.

In all 4 women and 8 men are taking part in the Course. 4, have no previous league table tennis experience (2 men and 2 women). And the delegates cover a wide spectrum of ages from 16 to ..... Ron Arthur! Showing once again that table tennis truly is a sport for life and a sport for all. The key factors that are uniting them are that they all want to learn how to play better, and they are all having great fun.
