EXPECTATIONS EXCEEDED AT RANKING TRIALS

A number of Baddow juniors were very much in the spotlight at the recent Essex Junior Ranking Trials held over the weekend 14/15 September at the NETTS Club, Gosfield.

None more so, than the youngest entrant Hannah Pitt. Nine in November Hannah showed just what tremendous progress she has made over recent months, finishing third in a round robin group of 6 in the U13 Girls event. This was far better than expected winning 3 out of five matches.

She may have been the youngest competitor at the Trials but Hannah Pitt far exceeded expectations taking third spot in the U13 Girls

A number of boys also took part in the Trials. Including Sam Pitt, Haydn Upson, Phil Twite, Rykki Vansertima and Adam & Ryan Pitt. Ryan will have been a little disappointed in his own performance in the senior U18 event, where he came in as one of the top 16 seeds. But for Sam and Haydn it was a day of better than expected performances. Sam reached the quarter final stage of both the U13 and U15 Boys events. He was particularly pleased in the U15's event to reach that placing by way of a fighting 11:8 in the fifth win over friend and rival Thomas Hill (formerly of Baddow and now a member of the ECC Club). Haydn had an impressive run in the consolation event in the U13s getting through to the semi-final where he just lost out 11:9 in the fifth to the eventual runner-up.

In both the U13 and U15 events Sam Pitt exceeded expectations reaching the quarter-final stages with some fighting displays.

All in all there were some very good performances by all the players a tribute to the ongoing work of the Coaches, Neil Gooday and Adrian Pitt and League Coaching Officer Hil Dowsett.

A more detailed report on the event can be found on the Chelmsford league web-site; see link below
