OUR CHELMSFORD CLOSED TOURNAMENT HEROES

A number of Baddow players were in action for the M&G Investments sponsored Chelmsford Closed Table Tennis Championships held at the Anglia Polytechnic University over the weekend 24 - 26 January, with Finals Night on Monday 3 February. No fewer than 20 members took part, the highest participation of any Club in the League. What's more we had some excellent successes. The pictures below take up a few of the stories.

The Shot of the Tournament?

Is this the shot of the Tournament?

Or maybe just
Sisterly Love?

(and 12 times Ladies Champion!) pictured here with her sister
Michelle Gooday (Neil's wife)
we count them both as much members as anyone else!

Handicap Singles Champion:

It was a pretty good tournament for Club Coach Neil Gooday, winner of the Handicap Singles. In the final he beat fellow club member Ryan Pitt in a marathon encounter. Neil was also a semi-finalist in the 2Down Singles, where he lost out to fellow club member Waseem Qureshi. Waseem himself however lost out in the final.
The picture shows Neil being presented with his trophy by the Deputy Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Rex Barriball

Juniors to the Fore

Club juniors were very much in evidence at the Tournament. Especially in the Junior events! of the 16 juniors taking part in the U13,U15, U17Boys & U17Girls events, 8 were from Baddow! So who's leading the way in junior development!
Our picture shows 9 year old Hannah Pitt receiving her trophy as runner-up in the Junior Handicap Singles. Brother Sam reached the semi-final of the U13 & U15 event. Ryan Pitt reached the final of the Handicap Singles and the Junior Doubles and the semi-final of the Junior Boys Singles. And John Patman reached the semi-final of the U21 Singles. These were all excellent achievements.

6 Down Singles

The Club have been delighted to welcome Bill Chester this year. And what a start he has had. In maintaining Club tradition Bill took the 6Down Singles in style with a 20:22, 21:10, 23:21 victory over OC's Nigel Parmenter. It couldn't have been closer.
