FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BRAVE AS JUNIORS DO BATTLE

As a newcomer to the Club Steve Clift, having just celebrated his 15th birthday ten days earlier, could not have expected to win the Ted Harris Youth Trophy at his first attempt. But that was exactly what happened! Steve only qualified for the second phase of the tournament, after the opening groups, by the skin of his teeth when the slide rule was needed to work out who had qualified after the closest of group matches. But he made the most of his luck eventually taking the title in style. 12 junior members of the Club competed for the trophy, played on a handicap basis. The initial stage being played in 3 groups of 4, with the top two qualifying. The next phase was two groups of 3 with the winner of each group competing in the final. A summary of the results are given below. A full report will be published later.

Hannah Pitt 3 3 0 6 0
Edward Miles 3 2 1 4 2
Haydn Upson 3 1 2 2 4
Laura Pyman 3 0 3 2 6

9 year old Hannah Pitt (centre)
really had to climb a mountain to overcome Ed Miles and Laura Pyman
 in Group 1.
But she did it in style making the maximum use of her handicap advantage to take all three games
2 straight.

Group 2

GL

Adam Pitt 3 2 1 4 2
Steve Clift 3 2 1 4 2
Sam Pitt 3 2 1 4 2
Phil Twite 3 0 3 0 6

They look pretty evenly matched in Group 2. But for Phil Twite (left) it was just not his night. Adam Pitt (right) played like a demon after a poor first game to win 2 out of 3. Steve Clift however had to wait for the slide rule to see if he had qualified. But you really have to feel sorry for Sam Pitt, not pictured. He won his first 2 with ease. Took his foot of the gas and was eliminated on count back!

Group 3
