COACHING ATTRACTS
NEWCOMERS
It may have been the Summer
Holidays, a time when many activities take a break, but junior coaching
has made the most of the holiday time with a number of newcomers being
attracted to take up table tennis through various sports initiatives.
Indeed junior coaching at Melbourne on Friday evenings has been a real
hive of activity throughout the summer. Let me introduce you to a few of
the newest recruits.
|

It seems to be a
family affair! Both Tom Lee (above) and Jake Smith (right) have made very promising
starts, and the concentration and effort shows on their faces, and
both have either a brother or sister also attending coaching.
|
 |
|
Side by side!
You could be forgiven for thinking they are brother and sister!
But Emily Smith (left) and Robert Lee are really related to Tom
and Jake above!
Emily and Robert are just starting out on the Dunlop Skills Award -
Rookie programme. Just working out how to hold the bat can
sometimes be quite a big thing when everything is new! |
 |
|

|
And with the
Dunlop Skills Award programme it is possible to progress fairly
quickly.
At least to first base. Here Jasmine Forde who has been coming to
coaching for a little while now receives her Rookie Award from
Coach Neil Gooday. And she seems delighted with it, and well she
might be as Jasmine has shown real potential. |
| You
may think this looks like a rogues gallery! But here are just a
few of the newcomers attracted to coaching at Melbourne over
recent weeks. And we still have room for a few more!
Matthew Thomas - trying to get
to grips with the fore hand drive
|

|
| Peter
Hawkings - his first night, getting his position and stance right. |
 |
| Liam
Hill - not quite the perfect pose for the back hand push, but then
he has only just started out! |
 |
| Mark
Hurrell - keeping his eye on the ball. Mark has been coming for a
few weeks and is already showing significant potential |
 |
Richard
Napper - hope the ball doesn't come back after this forehand
drive!
The cap may be back to front but there is nothing backward about
Richard's abilities, he has a natural eye for the ball, even if
his strokes are not yet perfect. |
