JUNIORS SHINE Our report on the 15 September told of recent success of some of our junior players in the Essex Ranking Trials held over the weekend 13/14 September. The weekend of 27/28 September was however the occasion of the illustrious Essex 4* Junior Open tournament, attracting a large entry from all over the country, including many of the countries top junior players (a full report on the event can be found on the Chelmsford League web-site). And amongst such company our own Laura Pyman excelled as this paragraph from the official event report shows: "the performance of Laura Pyman, who joined the CLICK League last season and has only been playing for a year was truly outstanding. Playing in the Girls Under 15 Consolation Singles she fought her way through three five-game thrillers at 11-9 in the decider, 12-10 in the fifth end and 11-6 in the decider respectively. A comfortable 3-0 Semi-Final victory saw her facing Frances Potjewyd (Somerset) in the Final and although she lost 7-11, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10 she again gave a superb account of herself against a more experienced opponent." And Laura's performances have clearly caught the eye of the Essex Junior ranking panel. In the very latest ranking lists she is now ranked at No.5 in the U18 Girls and at No.3 in the U15 Girls. This really is a remarkable achievement for someone who has been playing for just over a year. well done Laura.
Laura, is not the only baddow junior to achieve success and ranking status. Hannah Pitt, who will be 10 on the 1 November, has been ranked No.1 in the U13 Girls and at No.8 in the U15 Girls, and No.12 in the U18 Girls. With several years more left in the junior field clearly Hannah has the potential to reach the top. And not to be outdone Haydn Upson has been ranked at No.4 in the U13 Boys, with Sam Pitt at No.6, Rykki Vansertima at No.7 and Adam Pitt at No.9. Some very fine achievements by our junior members against some very tough opposition.
