GREAT FAMILY
NIGHT OUT Yes it's true. A Friday night out at the Baddow Club Night at Melbourne Athletics Stadium can definitely be a great (and inexpensive!) family night out. It was certainly so on the opening Club Night of the New Year on Friday 2 January. The hall was packed with all 18 tables in use throughout the evening. We counted at least 11 separate family groups amongst the 60 or so members, guests and other visitors. Some trying table tennis for the first time! Whether it is structured coaching for juniors that you are looking for, some gentle physical exercise, a sporting fun family night out, or some serious table tennis practice, Baddow at Melbourne on a Friday, throughout the year, has it all to offer! And yes, it is truly for the whole family, you don't have to be a great table tennis player to join in. All standards, age groups and genders are welcome and catered for. And you don't have to play! Come as a family, and if you don't want to play why not just sit, have a drink (only light refreshments) and catch up with all the news! There was plenty of evidence of that on the New year opening night, with Christmas and New year stories to exchange. Below is a selection of pictures from our guest photographer, 12 year old Sam Pitt, for the New Year opening night - perhaps you can spot yourself amongst the crowd. Id you would like any further information about what's on offer email or telephone Club Secretary, Adrian Pitt, on 01245 250710.
And I bet you can't guess what the next series of pictures have in common? Was going to call the series, "Dad and his Lad". But of course table tennis includes girls, and I'm sure Hannah wouldn't want to be called a 'lad'! So can you name these family groups?
And just to prove that Baddow and table tennis is all inclusive, amongst the crowd on New Years Open Night I counted, as well as the 11 family groups, at least 6 women, plus 4 girls, at least 21 children in total (that I can remember!), at least 5 families where Mum, Dad and the children were all present, at least 3 over 65's still actively playing, and one over 75! And finally, one other highlight. It was great to welcome back Duncan Elloy. Illness has kept Duncan out of table tennis for quite some months, but gladly he now seems to be on the mend, and seemed to suffer no adverse effects from his first night back. So perhaps for Duncan it truly will be a happy New Year! And, he was able to bring 9 year old grand daughter Yasmine along for her first taste of table tennis. Somehow though our cameraman seems to have missed her! So we really hope she is able to visit again.
