FIVE FINALS!

Traditionally the Club has a very good record in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League Knock Out Cup competitions. The 2003/04 season has been no exception, the Club having reached the final of no fewer than 5 finals. Including the prestigious top event the Men's KO Cup. Full reports on all the matches can be found from the Chelmsford League website using this link. But here's a quick summary.

Although they put up a very good performance the Men's KO Cup team of Peter Barrett, Adrian Pitt and Waseem Qureshi came second best to the League Champions ECC A in the final. seen here receiving their runners-up awards from League Registrations Officer Melanie Bonnett.

Our Mixed team of Adrian Pitt, Julie Vansertima and Waseem Qureshi put in a fantastic performance in the Mixed KO Cup Final against Elmtree Graphics A - who included the Chelmsford Men's Singles champion in their line-up.
In a hard fought match they went down 5:3

The Club also reached the final of the 2Down KO Cup, with an exceptional display in the semi-final to oust one of the top teams from Division 2, E2V, in a real nail biting thriller. In the Final they met the Division 2 champions Excalibur A. Again however the Club came second best as the team of Alastair Piper, Neil Gooday, and Gareth Joice went down 5:2. Seen here receiving their awards from League Vice Chairman Hugh Piper and match official, Registrations Officer, Melanie Bonnett.

Next up was our 'senior' side from Division 6. Usually known as Baddow Village H, but for the purpose of the 6Down KO Cup known as the A Team! In the final the team of Ron Arthur, Chris High and Peter Revell met Maldon Borough who - with Hatfield Peverel totally dominated division 6 this season. It will be no surprise therefore to learn that our team lost 5:0. the match was even finished before the cameraman arrived!
So here's a picture we took earlier - somehow Chris seems to have escaped!

And finally ..... no joke intended! We had 4 teams in the Junior KO Cup this year. Our top side of Martyn Chattey, Steve Clift and Laura Pyman lost out in a very close semi-final to ECC A. Which left our C side of Adam Pitt, Matthew Skeoch and Hannah Pitt to face ECC A in the final. They played well with Adam snatching a win. But the strength of the ECC team, featuring all league players compared to our own CLICK team players, was just a little too much. The match going to ECC 5:1.
Our picture shows both teams.
It looks as if the Baddow team are saying their prayers -
think that might have been better before the match!
