COACHING PROGRAMME ATTRACTS PARENTS AND CHILDREN!

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises that you will find if you attend the coaching programme at Melbourne Athletic Centre on Friday evenings is the number of women and girls taking part. In a sport that has been traditionally dominated by men this is quite incredible and very encouraging. But perhaps we shouldn't be surprised? After all, table tennis is a true sport for all. It has been quite noticeable that as juniors have come along to the coaching programme so one or two parents have been staying and joining in also. Not only that but some of the parents are showing themselves to have quite an eye for the game and are equally joining in the Dunlop Skills programme and gaining their first awards.

Below are some of the latest recipients of Dunlop Skills Awards presented on the 21 May. The award scheme helps new players to progress from the most basic shots and bat skills right through to advanced and elite performers. And the Friday night coaching programme now has sessions running at every level through to the elite squad.

Above, pictured with Head Coach Neil Gooday,
Heather Clubb and Linda Amoss two of the 'Mums' now attending
coaching with their children and seen here receiving their own first
Dunlop Skills Awards.

And below three of the girls to have received their first
Dunlop Skills Awards on the same night.
Friends Bethany Hudgell and Rebecca Stead, together with Suzie Unsworth.

Coaches Neil Gooday and Adrian Pitt may well look delighted. The numbers attending coaching are excellent, there is a great mix of girls and boys and, as the awards show many are making real progress

On the same night Jack Amoss (yes his Mum is above), John Warwick and
Josh Brooks also received their first Dunlop Skills Awards.
But for Tom Lee, pictured below, it was an even bigger moment as he qualified for his Improver Award. And that really does take some work to achieve.
No wonder he looks delighted!
