CLUB MEMBER TAKES TOP LEAGUE HONOUR

Club Secretary Adrian Pitt became the third member of the Club to gain the prestigious Rosebery/Pope & Smith Award from the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League at the League AGM on Thursday 27 May. The Award is made annually by the League in recognition of service to table tennis during the current season. In a glowing citation League President Norman Smith paid tribute to the work Adrian has put in developing junior players through his coaching activities and through the Melbourne development.

This is the fourth time in seven years that members of the Club have held this award, seen as one of the top honours given by the League for service to the sport. This is a remarkable achievement showing just how far the Club has come in recent years and the extent of the work being done to promote and encourage table tennis in the local area.

The League AGM was a great occasion for the Club. Not only was there the Award but also Adrian, Ryan Pitt and Graham Turner were elected to become members of the League Management Committee. The Club also received quite an array of silverware as the E & N teams received their divisional awards and Adam and Hannah Pitt gained their League Junior Badges for representing the League in the National Junior League.

And finally there was Steve Clift. Although not actually presented at the AGM Steve gained the Charlie Wheeler Memorial Award. This award is made annually to a junior player for an outstanding performance in the Chelmsford Closed Tournament. Probably the most popular event of the Tournament weekend is the Handicap Singles. for a junior player to come through a field of over 60 players of all standards is a tremendous achievement which can't all be placed on the handicap alone. To then repeat that feat and also win the Handicap Doubles was unique. It was the first time that both events have been won by the same player. Not bad for 15!
