RIGHT TO THE TOP!

It's not everyday that you get to meet the top man! But Club coaches Ryan Pitt and Graham Turner did just that. On Saturday 20 November Ryan and Graham were privileged to join around 10 other Coaches from around the area to take part in a Coach Education Workshop led by ETTA Technical Manager Steen Kyst Hansen, and organised by Mark Dare, the ETTA Eastern Region Development Officer, and held at the BATTS Club at Harlow. Steen was able to share from his vast experience in table tennis at National and International level. Originally from Denmark where he was coach to the National squad, Steen has also spent time in Iceland and Spain before coming to the UK, taking over his current role as manager of coaching for the ETTA, including responsibility for the National squad. During the workshop Steen was able to share insight into English table tennis, issues of funding in sport, as well as provide practical tips and ideas for getting the best from coaching sessions. The comprehensive handout provided was under the very apt title of "Always Looking to the Future", which as well as giving insight into the programme for the National squad gave some very practical training ideas that can be adapted to every level. This was certainly an excellent opportunity to meet and learn from a top International Coach - and the buffet lunch provided by the BATTS Club was pretty good too! All in all an excellent day out.

After the talking Steen put the Coaches through a gruelling afternoon practical session, giving helpful insights into the use and value of exercises as well as stressing the need to have fun and enjoy table tennis.
