CLUB OF THE YEAR Baddow Village were once more recognised for their significant contribution to table tennis with a Regional Award as PremierClub of the Year at the Participation level. Club members Ryan Pitt and Graham Turner attended an ETTA National Volunteers Conference at the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall over the weekend 12/13 March which included presentations of ETTA PremierClub Of The Year Awards. The Club’s award as Eastern Region’s PremierClub of the Year at Participation level was the second time the Club had been honoured in this was for its achievements in promoting table tennis. In a ceremony attended by ETTA Chairman Alex Murdoch and other top officials from the ETTA along with more than 60 delegates to the conference the award was presented by the ETTA Regional Development Officer, Mark Dare.
The conference itself proved to be an interesting and informative weekend. As well as giving the opportunity to “network” with other clubs, large and small, from across the country the event provided helpful and up to date information and discussion on a wide variety of topics. These included, child welfare issues; fund raising; recruiting, retaining and training volunteers; table tennis in schools; developing facilities and a range of other bits and pieces as well as an interesting presentation on London's bid for the 2012 Olympics and the role of table tennis in that event. Practical suggestions and tips and the wealth of experience from the delegates added to the value of the event. Providing much food for thought and several ideas to follow up!
