HE'S A WINNER!
Club
coach Ryan Pitt has gained the prestigious award from the English Table
Tennis Association of "Young Coach of the Year" for 2005. Ryan
was presented with his award at ceremony on Saturday 17 September at the
National Sports Training Centre at Lilleshall where he was attending a
top class conference for coaches. Ryan, aged just 19, was nominated for
his award jointly by the Club and the Chelmsford League. His nomination
said:
"Since
qualifying as a Level 2 Coach in 2002 Ryan has shown great determination
to succeed in bringing young people into table tennis and enthusing them
to stay in it. He has put in tremendous effort as a Club Coach.
Working at first mainly with beginner and improver groups he has shown
application and commitment beyond
his years. In addition to his Club work Ryan is also now supporting the
League Coaching Officer with an “Elite” squad and the League’s
teams in NJL.. In order to improve his skills Ryan has attended a
coaching update with Steen Kyst Hansen and more recently
successfully undertaken the Level 3 course. Ryan brings to his practical
coaching work strong administrative skills, designing and preparing
player profiles to monitor performance; coaching assessments to allow
players to feedback comments on training sessions to build in
improvement; and now working on a simple coaching manual. Ryan has used
modern means to support his
coaching including both video and DVD footage of table tennis and
photographs to demonstrate good and not so good techniques. Ryan is a
member of the League
Management Committee and on
the coaching sub committee. And is now spreading his enthusiasm to the
nearby Braintree League where he is aiming to introduce a
new junior league. And of course, all of this as a Volunteer!
We strongly recommend him
for this award.
It
is a brilliant achievement that Ryan's efforts have been recognised in
this way. So, well done Ryan and keep up the very good work.
Attending
the coaching conference also gave Ryan the opportunity to meet and
listen too some top class coaches from around the world thus further
broadening his knowledge and experience. Amongst those teaching at
the conference were former ETTA Director of Coaching Don Parker, the
Austrian National Coach Ference Karsai, who was also the coach to the
2003 World Champion Werner Schlager. Training on sports psychology was
provided by Jorn Ravnholt from Denmark and the current ETTA Technical
Manager Steen Kyst Hansen. With such an array of talent taking part,
even Ryan must have learnt something!

Seems Ryan
may have been a little shy about his award! We can't believe that!
Maybe just a little camera shy!
Ryan follows in the footsteps of a number of former Young Coaches
of the Year who have gone on to prove themselves as top coaches.
With this rate of progress there is every possibility that Ryan
could do the same. |
