Members Take Home the Silverware

Club members were present in strength at the M&G Investments sponsored Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League's Finals Night, held at the Old Chelmsfordians clubhouse on Monday 13 February. Among the special guests were the Mayor & Mayoress Of Chelmsford Councillor & Mrs Duncan Lumley, Anna Emtage of sponsors M&G Investments, and John Andrews Chairman of the Essex County Table Tennis association. Finals Night includes the presentation of trophies for all of the events for the Chelmsford Closed Tournament. And the pictures below show something of the success of Club members. A full report on Finals Night can be found on the Chelmsford League website.

Julie Vansertima is probably one of the most successful lady players that Chelmsford has ever had. She made two appearances on Finals Night, lifting the Ladies Singles title for the 16th time
and retaining the Mixed Doubles title with partner Dave Cole (ECC). These trophies add to the two she won at the tournament weekend, where she retained the Ladies Doubles title (with partner Jean Chasmer (Danbury)) as well as capturing the  prestigious 2Down Singles, the first lady ever to win this title. A remarkable record. Our picture shows Julie receiving her Ladies Singles trophy from Anna  Emtage of
tournament sponsors M&G Investments.

Challenging Julie for the Ladies crown was another club member,
Laura Pyman. She hasn't quite got Julie's touch yet but then she hasn't got Julie's experience either! Nevertheless in the short time since she has taken up
table tennis Laura has achieved remarkable success. This year she was runner-up in the Ladies Singles and the Ladies Doubles (partnered by Janet Pannell  of Danbury), and also runner-up in the Junior Girls Singles.
Here she receives her runner-up trophy  from Anna Emtage.

At 14 Adam Pitt is another junior
who is making great progress.
In his last season in the U14 category Adam managed to lift the U14 Singles title in what was an all Baddow final.
Mrs Lumley, the Mayoress of Chelmsford presents the trophy.

At 12 Hannah Pitt has a  bright future
in table tennis if she sticks to it.
High quality girl players are rare, and Hannah is high quality.
The quality was evident in the
U14 Singles where Hannah came
through a strong field of boys and girls
to face Adam in the final.  This time it was runner-up but maybe next year.... Mrs Lumley presents the
 runner-up award.

Bradley Hudgell seems to have taken to table tennis like a duck to water. Many questioned his move up to Div 4 of the League this season. But any doubts have been firmly dispelled by the
quality of his performances in both
the league and at the tournament.
Bradley took the 4Down Singles trophy beating both the No.1 & No.2 seeds on the way. Not bad! he just missed out in the U16 Singles losing out in a well fought final . Anna  Emtage is seen here presenting his winners trophy.

The Club's lead coach, Neil  Gooday,
was also amongst the winners at the tournament. Partnered by Neil Freeman (Hatfield Peverel) they took the
Handicap Doubles title, receiving his award on Finals Night from John Andrews, Chairman Of Essex County Table Tennis Association.
