2005/06 has proved to be a good
season for the Club in the Chelmsford & District Table
Tennis League's KO Cup events. With two Junior KO Cup Finals won
the Club also had places in the final of the Mixed KO Cup,
the 2Down KO Cup and the 6Down KO Cup. Sadly though having
to settle for runner-up spot in all three.
The pick of the action was in
the Mixed KO Cup, where the team of Neil Gooday, Waseem
Qureshi and Julie Vansertima took on the might of Elmtree
Graphics, the holders of the trophy, featuring top 1st
division players Vytas Rybakas and John Holland. With Baddow
featuring the Ladies Singles champion this match was going
to be no pushover for the holders. And so it proved, but the
Baddow men couldn't quite prevail in the singles. The match
slipping away 5:3 to the holders.
Having crushed divisional
winners Billericay to get into the final of the 2Down KO Cup
expectations were fairly high for the Baddow A side of
Adrian Pitt, Alastair Piper and Ray Lawrence. But Danbury A,
the divisional runners-up, were in no mood to crumble like
the Billericay side did. And on the night things just didn't
go right for Baddow crashing to a 5:1 defeat.
In the 6Down KO Cup it was
perhaps a surprise that the Baddow A side, captained by
Diane Pitt, made their way through to the final. But there
they faced the run-away divisional leaders Danbury. Here the
team of Ian Austin, Andrew Lager and Adam Pitt put up a
really good show despite losing out 5:1.
Still, that's not bad. Club
teams through to 5 out of 9 KO Cup finals!
