Annual General Meeting Sets
Strategy for Future
The Club's annual business
meeting on Monday 22 May, held for the first time at the
Newlands Community Centre, heralded both past success and an
ambitious future. In welcoming members to the meeting the
Chairman praised the work of Club Officers and Coaches over
the past year in maintaining the club as a vibrant and
dynamic centre for table tennis for all. The Club's work
amongst juniors continued to develop and the Club had once
again taken both major junior team trophies for the
2005/2006 season in the Chelmsford & District League.
The recent World Veterans Championships had also served to
act as a reminder of the fine tradition of senior players
that the Club has, showing something of the diversity and
inclusiveness of the Club. However there was no room for
complacency and we could not afford to standstill. The Club
Officers will therefore be exploring new avenues to enhance
the programme of the Club and to forge links within the
community.
For the first time the Club
intended to appoint one of its management committee members
to become the Club Coaching Officer to take forward junior
development and look at possible links between the Club and
the community and especially schools in the neighbourhood.
Ryan Pitt, himself an ETTA Level 3 Coach, agreed to take on
this role and was duly elected. Also for the first time the
Club would be appointing a member of its general committee
as a Child Welfare Protection Officer. With so many young
people coming through the Club it was most important that
all members strive for best practice within the ETTA
guidelines in relation to child welfare. Donna Hudgell
agreed to take on this role and was duly elected.
Arrangements have already been made for her to receive
appropriate training through the local authority.
There was no change to the
Club Chairman, General Secretary or Treasurer and Mike Pitt
was elected as Social Secretary for the coming year.
Although the Club had
performed well financially over the past year making a small
profit overall there was a proposal that membership
fees should be increased this year. The first increase for
more than 10 years. The fees approved by the members were:-
Full senior member - £60 per
annum
Full junior member - £20 per annum
Player only member - £25 per annum.
The Club will continue to
offer family discounts and will review the fee it charges
for pay & play table tennis on Friday.
Neil Gooday, Sam Pitt and
Frank Neill were also elected as members of the Club General
Committee.
The evening culminated with
the presentation by the Chairman of the Club Trophies and
drawing of a small raffle.

Club
Chairman, Graham Turner (right), seems somewhat
surprised to be presenting the Tom Burns Handicap
Singles trophy to Club Secretary Adrian Pitt. Watched
by tournament organiser Ryan Pitt. Adrian was picking
up the trophy for the third time. Having first won it in 1988
he has now won it for 2 years running, a pretty good
achievement after a 17 year gap! |
Mike
Johnston (left), himself a former winner, receives the
Tom Burns runner-up trophy |

It's
been quite a year for 15 year old Bradley Hudgell.
One he crowned by retaining the Ted Harris Junior
Trophy. Only the second person to have won it twice. |
12
year old Hannah Pitt receives the runner-up award for
the
Ted Harris Junior Trophy. Hannah put on one of the
most dazzling of displays of junior table tennis on
the day only just loosing out. |

 |
| And
not to be out done by Father and Sister, Sam Pitt
(next to the Chairman) receives the Purkiss Robinson
Doubles trophy together with his partner Neil Gooday
(left). It was decisive play from Sam late in the
third game that enabled Neil & Sam to just edge
out their young opponents. |
The
tournament proved to be quite an occasion for the Pitts! Here Adam & Hannah Pitt (not
related!) receive the runner-up award for the Purkiss Robinson
Doubles Trophy. Both junior and senior players took part so
they came through some stiff opposition to achieve this
success putting on an excellent display of doubles. |
