For the third time the Club has
been successful in a bid for a grant from The National
Lottery. The Awards for All grant supported by Sport England
is for an amazing £9,400. The maximum grant available under
this programme being £10,000.

The sum represents the full
amount that the Club applied for. The Club's application was
supported by the Sports Development Officer for the
Chelmsford Borough Council as well as the area school sports
co-ordinator.
The Clubs application was
made on two fronts:-
- to expand the provision of
table tennis within the current facilities at Melbourne
by introducing competitive play to the venue (the League
programme) and extending junior training to achieve
"excellence" standards. This will involve
renewal and expansion of equipment especially for
competitive play;
- to develop school/club
links within the local community to increase
participation in table tennis at junior level. The aim
is to develop with the Borough Council a 'feeder'
programme linked to the local schools and operated by a
qualified coach.
The grant represents a really
exciting development for the Club and is a massive investment
of new money into table tennis in Chelmsford. The two previous
grants the Club applied for and were successful in were just
£2,500 each, so this really is a major investment showing how
far the Club has come in recent years.
Let's hope we can repay this
confidence in the Club and apply the money well to the lasting
benefit of table tennis in this town. This success reflects
credit on all members of the Club as it is the members who
make the club what it is. Join us in celebrating the success
and watch this space for more news as we aim to enhance our
programme in the New Year....
