Club member Jacqui Smith has
more talents than just table tennis! One of her skills is
making gift tags for Christmas. In recent years she has sold
these and used the profits to support charities and special
activities that are dear to her. And Christmas 2006 was no
exception. Having collected up the previous years discarded Christmas
cards, Jacqui then sets about turning them into gift tags
for the next year, each pack of tags selling for the
princely sum of just £1. Great value for money! This year
she has raised a bumper £75 from her efforts. A brilliant
achievement. And her effort has been matched with great
generosity. From the money raised Jacqui has donated £30 to
the local YMCA, where she is also a voluntary helper. A
further £30 has been donated to the British Table Tennis
Association for the Disabled. Jacqui is a supporter and
member of the North West team under coach Dennis Beech, and
her donation will support that work amongst partly disabled
players. And finally, Jacqui has decided to donate the
balance of £15 to her own Club, Baddow Village, especially
to support the junior coaching work. This is a great
gesture, and we are very grateful to Jacqui for her
consideration and generosity. Her donation was presented to
Club Secretary, Adrian Pitt, last Friday (19 January) and
Junior Development Officer Ryan Pitt was also on hand to
acknowledge the donation on behalf of junior development.
Thanks Jacqui!

Ryan & Adrian are in the forefront of on going
discussions with the local authority, Chelmsford
Borough Council, and the Chelmsford School Sports Co-Ordinator
as to how the Club can be involved in getting table
tennis into local schools and linking that with the
Club's ongoing coaching programme at Melbourne. |
